Denouncing the use of field-specific effect size distributions to inform magnitude

An effect size (ES) provides valuable information regarding the magnitude of effects, with interpretation being most important. Interpreting ES requires combining from numerical value and context research. However, many researchers adopt popular benchmarks such as those proposed by Cohen. More recently, have interpreting relative to distribution observed ESs in a specific field, creating unique for declaring effects small, medium or large. there is no valid rationale whatsoever this approach. This study was carried out two parts: (1) We identified articles that use field-specific distributions interpret (primary articles); (2) cited primary classified them year publication type. The first type consisted methodological papers. second included interpreted using approach articles. There has been steady increase number substantial discussing adopting considering even though devoid theoretical framework. It hoped research will restrict practice values field instead encourage study.
